Access Apartments for Physically Disabled Adults in Toronto was formed and incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization to address the shortage of accessible housing with attendant support services in Toronto.

1989
Access opened our doors and started providing services at York Square, a Toronto Community Housing Corporation building on Eglinton Avenue West near Caledonia with ten 2-bedroom and one 3-bedroom wheelchair accessible apartments. York Square was our first supportive housing program.

Access started providing services at Aldebrain Attendant Care Services of Toronto, a community-based housing provider on Lawrence Avenue East at Birchmount with fourteen 2-bedroom and two 3-bedroom wheelchair-accessible apartments.

Access received funding for the Attendant Outreach program to provide assistance to people in their homes, workplaces, or schools from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, 7 days per week.

Access developed ministry policies for the Nurturing Assistance program to support consumers with their children and received funding to establish the Nurturing Assistance community fund.

Access was selected by St. Mark's Support Services to assume operational responsibilities for their program at St. Mark's Court, a community-based housing provider on the Donway East near Don Mills and Lawrence Avenue East with eight 1-bedroom, six 2-bedroom, and two 4-bedroom wheelchair-accessible apartments.

Access Apartments officially changed its name to Access Independent Living Services.

Access received accreditation status through CARF International, an internationally recognized standards body.

Access received funding to launch the Mobile Attendant Service program, providing 24/7 care to adults with physical disabilities at their community homes, eliminating the need for traditional supportive housing.

Access started providing services at Ridgeford Charitable Foundation, a community-based housing provider on Finch Avenue East at McCowan with five 1-bedroom and five 2-bedroom wheelchair-accessible apartments.
